Voice to Text for Microsoft Teams on Mac
Teams messages pile up all day: a quick question in a chat, a long answer in a channel thread, a note in the meeting chat while someone is presenting. TAWK lets you speak those replies instead of typing them. Hold one key in any Teams box, talk, release. Transcription runs on your Mac with no internet. $59 once.
Why Voice Fits Teams Chat
Chat feels quick, but it adds up. Twenty replies of 40 words is 800 words a day, about 20 minutes of typing at an average 40 words per minute. Spoken at around 150 words per minute, it is closer to 5. The replies also get better, because when typing costs nothing you explain things properly instead of sending "ok, see thread".
TAWK is not a Teams add in. It types wherever your cursor is, so it works in the Teams app for Mac, in Teams in your browser, and in every other app you switch to between messages. There is nothing to install inside Teams and nothing for your Teams admin to approve.

Many companies that run on Teams have rules about where work data can go. A dictation tool that sends audio to its own servers can fall outside those rules; one that transcribes on the Mac usually does not. More on chat and email in voice typing for Slack and email on Mac.
Privacy: Team Chat Is Work Data
Teams chats hold customer names, numbers, HR conversations and plans not yet announced. A cloud dictation tool receives the audio of everything you say before it becomes a message, including the parts you never send.
Your voice and your words never leave your Mac. Transcription runs on your Mac with no internet. TAWK does send a few anonymous usage counters and an optional daily health check, with no audio and no words, and you can turn both off in Settings > Privacy.
Tips for Dictating in Teams
- Mute before meeting chat. Press Cmd+Shift+M in a Teams call to mute, then hold the TAWK key. Your words go into the chat box, not the meeting.
- One message, one point. Short spoken messages read best in chat. Save hands free mode for long channel posts.
- Format afterwards. Dictate the text, then open the formatting box with Cmd+Shift+X to add bullets or bold.
- Check unusual names. A colleague's uncommon surname may need a quick fix with the keyboard.
- Same key in your other work apps. Reply to email with dictation in Outlook, chat in Slack, and personal chats with voice to text for WhatsApp.
